The 38-0 Challenge is a football management game with one brutal objective: win all 38 league matches in a single season. Not 37. Not unbeaten. All 38. In real football no top-flight team has ever done it, which is exactly why it is worth trying in simulation.

Most football games ask you to build a dynasty over years. The 38-0 Challenge compresses that into a single season. You pick a club, sign players, choose a formation and style, then manage 38 consecutive matchdays. Every round brings a real decision: who plays, how aggressive the approach is, whether the substitutes come early. The league table updates after every match, and one slip can end the perfect run.

It is a football version of the 7-0 idea applied to a full league campaign — a Football Manager lite experience that takes five to ten minutes per season instead of fifty hours.

How the challenge works

The game uses a fictional 20-team division called the National League 38, so no real clubs or players are involved. You choose from twelve clubs in three tiers: title favourites with big budgets, challengers with good squads, and underdogs who would need a miracle.

Before the season you spend a transfer budget on marquee signings shown as player cards — a clinical striker, a commanding keeper, a playmaker. Then you set the tactics: one of six formations, one of four playing styles, and the projected starting eleven.

On each of the 38 matchdays you see the opponent, the team news (injuries, suspensions, tired players) and your current position. You decide lineup intensity, match approach and sub policy, then the match is simulated with goal minutes, cards, injuries and a man of the match. Other results and the full table roll in at the same time.

Why a perfect season is so rare

Real football's best ever league seasons still dropped points. The 2003-04 Arsenal Invincibles went unbeaten but drew 12 matches. No top-flight team in the modern European leagues has won 38 out of 38.

The 38-0 Challenge keeps that difficulty honest. Fatigue accumulates, injuries happen, away days are harder, and a mid-table club can play the game of its life against you. Strong builds can finish unbeaten; perfect records take genuinely good management and a share of luck.

That rarity is the point. When the final table shows 38 wins and zero losses, the season feels like an achievement rather than an entitlement.
